The Friction Block is a 5 cm hardwood cube with a hook on one face. The block may be pulled by the hook with any one of four sides facing down, each offering a different surface material.
The four surfaces include
- Smooth, unfinished wood
- Paper pressboard
- Fine grit sandpaper
- Faux leather
To investigate the effect of normal force on the frictional force, add masses to the block and pull again.
The edges and corners of the block have been sanded so there are no sharp edges or points.
